About me
Paul J. Pycroft is a freelance photographer based in Cardiff, South Wales, and has so far taken anything from portraits and landscape to nature and still life. Photography combines well with his other passions – I.T work, web development and swimming.
Paul was born deaf but is very good at lip reading. He was fifteen when he had his first camera, a Zenith B, 35mm film based SLR camera. That gave him an insight into capturing images with various lighting conditions with and without use of a light meter. At 17 Paul took the winning photograph at the Welsh Youth Photography Award.
From there he gained valuable experience in his first job as an Electronic Technician at Cardiff University in the early 1980’s, during that time he do photographs with Pentax and Nikon 35mm SLR film based cameras as part of his occasional role for both academic and post graduates research work. This included in the traditional way using a darkroom based enlarger and the use of chemicals to produce photographic prints. Nowadays, he uses a digital full frame SLR and the latest photo editing packages.
Paul’s Bio….
Paul currently works as an I.T. Specialist in a local government organisation and has considerable experience in the computer and electronic industries for at least 47 years. Graduated with B.Sc. then M.Sc., went on to obtained Chartered Engineer and again Chartered I.T. Professional. He is married with 2 children.
He has always been passionate about photography and has shot images from portraits and landscape to nature and still life for several years. Photography combines well with his other passions of touring on his motorcycle and swimming, in which he competes at a national level.

Societies of Photographers
I am a member of the Society of Wedding & Portrait Photographers and am undergoing mentoring for qualification with the Society of Photographers. Many of my skills are drawn from my time as a portrait & nature photographer – a discipline requiring many of the same professional skills necessary for event, commercial, portrait and wedding photography. I have got Public Liability Insurance cover and photographic equipment are PAT tested.
